Urban means “of, or pertaining to, town or city environments”. Historically the term has been correctly used as an adjective to describe the type of fashion or music that is typical of the urban environment, but is now evolving to mean the fashion/music of the street, as opposed to the more polished “high-society” or “uptown” look/sound. I think.

I loved this, you’re so right about all of it, except the things in the actual title! As the previous commenter said, it’s ENGLISH. What is Urban?
Urban is an inner city area where there are majority Ethnic Minorities, disadvantaged areas with possibly low income families and failing education.
The Urban we hear about today means that those people have raised up from the actual meaning and created a brand unique to their unearthed talents, like diamonds in the rough.

Urban nowadays is like a Phoenix from the ashes.

The way I see being urban is the ability to be yourself not copying your peers. Having friends who accept good times and help you through the bad while maintaining an electric enthusiasm for life and being around people who accept who you are but will help you and not be afrain to point out areas that you would benifit by changing for the better. Learning how to protect your values from harm and looking out for those close to you.
Helping your friends make something better of them selves rather than holding them back so as to not make you feel better about yourself and supporting them if they move on at a faster rate than yourself.
Having a willingness to learn and pass on new things from people with more experience without having a head too big that only permits self promotion.
Urban has a music culture which breaks free from mainstream music created by a dictatorial corporation but is created by people and produced for people who have a love of music and expression first, money second.

Everyone has their own perception of what urban is…
I see it as an unrestricted, undiscovered, deep and vibrant form of expression with no set rules and no defined form.
It is difficult to pinpoint what it is exactly but I believe it is what you make it to be.

Urban is an inflence. Of genre, a setting, a style, it spreads into a lot of ways, through people, through dress sense… through music, tv, magazines. Urban is an ifluence which might appeal to certain people, and it might be the opposite of another’s influenced sense of style.

You ask well al tell ya cat, Its the music of Jazz Soul/ Blues/Dancehall/ Electro/R&B & Hip-Hop/Rap. breaking/popping, Scratching, DJing, diversity fashion & individuality! thats the craft & realism that originates from the people of the street now its getting commercially viability!!! whats with that question ask the urbanites that I know & stand by the side of me, trying getting rid of hyprocrisy from the state, devouring high society taken pride from where you from…I’m Urban’s allie and any one who goes aginst the real i’m there adversary…your in denial realise i’m a british URBAN CHILD…realise the power of people and our style changing trends and voicing our poverty and how we can make to the top because its in my blood, pumping my heart I am Urban are you part of that fam!! coz brother thats Urban.
